The
Mountaineering Club enjoys a reputation for being the most active of all
clubs in JNU. Indeed, as far as adventure activities are concerned, the
variety and challenges offered are perhaps unique for any educational
institution in the country. The Club attempts to develop team spirit and
leadership qualities in university students through its programmes, and
those who pass through its ranks are second to none in terms of experience
and abilities. In addition the JNUMC tries to raise awareness about the
environment and encourages participants to learn about local customs and
traditions.
With a view to catering to every time or energy constraint that JNU students
may have, the Club organizes several activities such as high-altitude
trekking, rockclimbing, cross-country cycling, and white water rafting. The
Club which functions autonomously, is affiliated to the
Indian
Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi, the regulatory authority for
mountaineering in India, and has also been a member of the National
Adventure Foundation (NAF), New Delhi.
